this issue:
Greetings
From Warren
So
why not use the new technologies to stay in touch with my
readers, old and new?
With
all 23 of my previous
published novels back in print as e-books, trade paperback
and hardcover and my new novel Mourning
Glory due August 7th from Kensington Books, I am
making every effort to harvest the names of my readers
world-wide and facilitate a way to stay in touch with them on
a regular basis and keep them informed about other upcoming
books and events.
My
books can be downloaded as e-books in every
format imaginable and be read on your Palm Pilot or any
handheld device. They can be purchased from every online store
from Barnes & Noble to Amazon.com and can be bought at
every brick and mortar store everywhere. Check my website
for more details and purchase venues.
But
the best thing about these new technologies is that I can now
talk with readers and respond to their reactions to my
stories, characters, thoughts and ideas. I encourage you to chat
and interact with me and other readers. Your questions
will be answered promptly. And don't fret about being
argumentative, contentious or overly critical. We're a
one-on-one communication system here and revel in intelligent
dialogue. This is one of the reasons why I decided to write
this letter to you. We are so privileged to live in an age
that the reader can easily communicate to their favorite
writers with hardly any effort at all.
Hustling
at BookExpo America
I've
been to the BEA (BookExpo America) in Chicago, a giant size
meeting ground for publishers, authors, distributors, and
everyone else selling ancillary products related to
bookselling. Basically, to those who are not familiar about
the BEA, this is the yearly Mecca to the American publishing
industry. I hustled around frenetically to meetings, speeches
and interviews and signings of my new book Mourning
Glory due out August 7th from Kensington Press.
I
brought the message of my venture into the new technologies to
two panel discussions and scores of booth meetings. It was
exhilarating and informative. Most gratifying was the lines of
booksellers interested in getting a copy of my new book
signed. Considering what previous bound gallies and first
editions of my originally published books are fetching, I
suppose it made great economic sense. Too bad I gave so many
of them away. Check Alibris.com
to see what I mean.
Mourning
Glory - the Inside Scoop
Will
this sexy, suspenseful, bittersweet novel in the vein of The
War of the Roses really increase audience participation at
funerals, teach single Moms how to deal with their sexually
active teenage daughters, offer a naughty glimpse behind the
scenes of snooty Palm Beach, encourage ladies of uncertain
economic status to zero in on rich widowers or offer other
trouble making survival tips? I hope so.
Barbara
Taylor Bradford who sells millions of her own great books
gave me a fantastic blurb for Mourning
Glory indicating that she thinks I know a great
deal about women. Is she right? My wife Sunny disagrees, says
I don't know squat about women. Go figure.
Judith
Kelman, another author who is no slouch in the suspense
department, also blurbed saying Mourning
Glory is "more fun than the seven deadly
sins." All seven?
And
David Brown, the famous producer, who knows a good Chocolat
when he sees one, blurbs that my book is "a blast."
Neal
Travis of the New York Post declares that
"this tale of a glamorous grifter can't miss". You
be the judge.
Have
Big Mouth, Will Travel
Thousands
of people gather in reading groups in homes, public libraries
and on the Internet to discuss particular books of interest to
the group. If you are in such a group, and choose to discuss Mourning
Glory, I'll be happy to attend via speaker telephone,
the Internet or, depending on distance, in person. E-mail us
at CustomerService@WarrenAdler.com.
As
an added lure, we'll place the name of your group in a drawing
and the winning name will get free autographed copies of Mourning
Glory (up to a limit of 20 copies). And, of
course, I'll make myself available for discussion.
Roth
on the Skillet
One
of my favorite authors Philip Roth's new book The
Dying Animal got skewered by a number of so called
"important" critics who love to show reading folks
how "veddy litry" they are. I guess they get their
jollies putting pinholes in one of our great contemporary
writers. Pay them no mind. Roth is one of the best we've got
and The Dying Animal shows real insight into that other
gender - us guys.
Fiona
Lives
Fiona
FitzGerald, the character in my six-book mystery
series may have a new life via Lifetime Television. They
licensed her character, commissioned a pilot script by Ilana
Bar-Din and partnered me with legendary TV producer Dan Blatt.
We hope to hear whether the project flies by the end of the
month. Then comes the hard part, trying to pick an actress who
truly embodies Fiona.
We're
keeping our fingers crossed. With the West Wing one of the
most popular shows on television, interest in Washington is
zooming. Fiona is a homicide detective in our nation's capital
who only works on high profile cases, some of them with West
Wing connections. We'll keep you posted.

Since
I am a man who loves contests, I have decided to create some

my website and encourage more and more people to read my
books. To me that's a noble, if somewhat self-serving, course
of action. People tell me this works, so here goes:
Win
free autographed copies of Mourning Glory!
