In this issue:

Greetings From Publishing Central

"Fiona" Cable Pilot Gets the Green Light

The Lifetime Network has authorized the production of the pilot for "Fiona," a potential one-hour weekly series based on the title character of my six book mystery series, Fiona FitzGerald.

The show will be produced by Daniel H. Blatt Productions and my company. Rick Rosen of the Endeavor Agency made the deal.

Fiona

Who will be Fiona?

Fiona, daughter of a Senator, works as a Homicide Detective in the Washington D.C. Police Department. She is tough, smart, and attractive and handles mostly cases involving the power elite of Washington. Because Fiona has been brought up in the heady social milieu of the capital, she knows all the movers and shakers of that world and is an invaluable asset in unraveling the murder cases and mysteries that deal with the hidden aspects, intrigues and scandals that lurk just beneath the surface of that environment.

We've begun the search to find just the right talented, sexy and strong-willed actress, aged 30 to 35, to play the part of Fiona. Who would be your favorite choice to play Fiona? Submit your suggestions below. (AOL users please click on your Reply icon to send an e-mail message with your suggestions!)

We'll keep you apprised of our progress. With the success of "The West Wing" and rising interest in the human side of political Washington, there is great optimism about the future of the series as a major television hit. Stay tuned.

The Fiona FitzGerald mystery book series is available at all on-line retailers and bookstores.

"Cult" is Coming Soon

CultMy publishing company, Stonehouse Press, has pioneered the process of making available all of my 25 previously published novels in every eBook and print-on-demand format. Now, under our new imprint, Three Ponds Press, we are making available my new novel Cult in hardcover format to be distributed by the LPC Group to booksellers in the United States and the United Kingdom. Cult will also be available in all eBook formats through all on-line sources.

The eBook version should be ready in January with the hard cover version available in bookstores by April.

Cult, subtitled "A Novel of Brainwashing and Death," deals with a man attempting to rescue his wife from a fearsome death cult. Suspenseful and gritty, the novel explores the consequences of brainwashing by cynical power-hungry "gurus" for their own evil ends. In the light of the September 11th attack, perpetrated by members of the al-Qaeda terrorist cult, the novel's timeliness was a major factor in speeding its publication.

I am hopeful that, in addition to being entertaining, Cult will add to the body of knowledge about cults and alert people to the dangers posed by cults as well as contribute to their understanding of this sinister phenomenon.

Spreading the Word

I will be speaking at the Library of Congress Science Division's Midday Lecture Series on Monday, December 10th on the growing interest in eBooks and Print-on-Demand technologies and how they will impact on authors in the future. For those in the Washington area, the talk will take place in the Mumford Room at the Library of Congress at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited. The talk will also be videotaped and available for viewing soon after the event on the Library of Congress website. Check this site for more information and scheduling.

I have lectured extensively on this topic in the last few months with presentations in Paris, Germany, Washington and New York. I have also spoken about the growing importance of eBooks on numerous radio programs and in television interviews.

With the current proliferation of user-friendly digital reading devices in circulation and ever more sophisticated, multi-functional, and less expensive versions being introduced at a rapid pace, the interest in eBooks is growing exponentially. For those interested in the topic, consult the text of speeches previously given and posted on my website, www.WarrenAdler.com.

Foreign Works

We have authorized the creation of eBooks in French language translations of two of my novels, The War of the Roses and Random Hearts. They will be available soon worldwide through numerous web outlets. With my novels translated into 30 languages, we are cautiously entering this market. Currently, eBook technologies are a bit behind the United States in other countries, but they'll soon catch up, hence our own entry.

Until we meet again next month, happy reading and sincere wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I know these words may sound a bit hollow after the events of September 11th, but life must go on in a spirit of optimism. It will certainly be a relief to say goodbye to 2001, the lousiest year in recent memory.
