In Warren's Words

The Novel Marathon

I grew up believing that to become a working novelist was to realize a dream of noble and mythic proportions. In the world that I inhabited as a young man, my heroes were mainly novelists, not because of the way they lived their lives, although that was of great interest, but because they had created stories providing me with enjoyment, insights and wisdom … That said, I was astonished to read in the New York Times about NaNoWriMo, the contest created to dramatize National Novel Writing Month, which is November. The goal of the contest was to create a novel of 50,000 words in 30 days...My first reaction, after a loud guffaw, was to put the idea down with snobbish disdain. Really! Writing a novel is not a marathon. See complete story.

Movie News

"Target Churchill" is Heading to the Screen

Target Churchill, a novel written by Warren Adler and James Humes, has been optioned for the movies. Warren Adler wrote the screenplay, which will be directed by noted director Kevin Connor. Connor has just finished directing the mini-series Marco Polo, starring Ian Somerhalder and B.D. Wong. No date has been set for the start of production for Target Churchill. The book has not yet been published.

In the mode of Day of the Jackal, Target Churchill deals with a fictional assassination attempt on Winston Churchill during his 1946 "Sinews of Peace" address in Fulton, Missouri, which popularized the phrase "the Iron Curtain" to describe the Soviet Union's division of the European continent after World War II.
