In Warren's Words

Handling Rejection

You've spent months, perhaps years, composing your novel. You've read and reread it hundreds of times. You've rethought it, rewritten it, revised it, changed characters, dialogue, plot lines...You have finally considered it finished. Armed with optimism and self-confidence, you obtain a list of agents and begin to canvas agents...Weeks go by, then months. They are, you believe, reading it in the office, passing it around, deciding to take it on. You live on such hopes. Finally...a form letter...You feel lost, adrift. Rejection after rejection has beaten you down. You see this as the end of your world, the end of your hopes and dreams...What now?...You have three choices... See complete story.

Featured Book News

Can a Powerful Media "Create" a President?

This is the central theme posed by The Henderson Equation, the featured book for February. The novel deals with the owners and editors of a powerful Washington newspaper that has just brought down a President and now, flushed with power, make a calculated decision to put a candidate of their choice in the White House. Many critics charged that this was a "roman a clef" based on the Washington Post's relentless pursuit of Richard Nixon, which resulted in his eventual resignation. Mr. Adler admits to the similarities, and many readers contend that the book is as relevant today as it was when it was first published. Read it and see if you agree.
