Greetings
From Publishing Central
As
one of the few - perhaps the only - published author
to avail himself of web technology in all formats and
configurations from eBooks, print-on-demand
and traditional publishing, I thought it
appropriate to keep you apprised of what is
essentially an author’s medium and how this author
is using it. We hope you enjoy it.

"Cult"
Now Out as an eBook!
After
a year of intense experimentation in the eBook arena,
culminating with the electronic publication of my new book Cult
as an eBook prior to traditional publication, we are truly
beginning to understand the dynamics and great economic and
promotional potential of this new literary outlet. Defying the
naysayers in the mainstream media who seem to be upset that
eBooks are not a $5 billion industry at its inception, we have
gone about the steady business of creating an eBook library of
my 25 books in all digital formats and are continually finding
new and interesting ways to promote and distribute these books
to an ever-widening audience.
I
am arguably the only novelist in the world with my output
exploiting this new digital world to the fullest extent
possible. With all of my books now available through online
sites for brick and mortar stores such as Barnes & Noble,
Books-A-Million, Borders, and Powell's, as well as on
Internet-only sites such as Amazon.com, Fictionwise,
PreviewPort, Franklin, Gemstar, Palm Digital Media, and
MobiPocket, my publishing company, Stonehouse Press, is
developing a clear and comprehensive overview of the entire
eBook field. When a book that had previously been out of print
is selling many copies a year to be read on computers or
handheld devices - something interesting is happening.
Others
are also beginning to see the potential of this exciting new
field. The Open eBook
Forum (OeB), for example, has recently begun its promotion
of the first "Open an eBook" week, to take
place in April. In addition to creating an exciting new
website that will offer free eBook material and encourage new
eBook users, the OEB is working to promote the important
educational uses of eBooks in schools and libraries, as well
as its many applications for the handicapped. As more and more
people become aware of the wonders of this new distribution
format, in our opinion, eBooks will indeed one day give
traditional paper books a run for their money.
This
does not mean that the publishing field and the paper book as
we all know and love it will be obsolete tomorrow… or ever.
We at Stonehouse Press are also still very much in the
traditional publishing arena. My last novel, Mourning
Glory, will be available from Kensington Press as a
paperback in August. And Three Ponds Press will publish Cult
in July as a hardcover. We certainly hope it will capture the
imagination of readers who seek to understand and gain insight
into the phenomena of brainwashing, especially in the light of
the 9/11 tragedy.

Production
Wraps on "Fiona" Pilot for Lifetime
|
| The
television pilot of Fiona starring Kellie
Martin as Fiona
FitzGerald and Mario Van Peebles as
Winston Cates, her partner in the Washington D.C.
police force, is now complete. It will now be up to
Lifetime to decide whether or not it will fill its
Sunday, 9 p.m. timeslot on the network.
The
series is based upon characters developed in my six
mystery books featuring Fiona
FitzGerald, a Senator's daughter, who works as
a homicide detective for the Washington Police
Department. Fiona, having grown up in the rarified
social world of the Washington elite, now also lives
in the gritty and dangerous world of Washington crime
and is the detective of choice to solve cases that
involve the powerful of the political establishment.
If
Fiona is chosen as a regular one-hour series, we can
probably expect the mystery genre to be revisited as
major fare in the television world. It will also
prompt me to write more Fiona books and, hopefully,
create additional interest in the original six books,
which are - surprise! - still selling quite well on
the Internet. As Fiona enters the larger arena of
television viewership, I hope and plan to see synergy
between the Fiona books, eBooks and the series grow to
a new level.
