Kerouac and His Road to Nowhere
I recently read the 1957 novel
On the Road by Jack Kerouac for the first
time. As everybody knows it has been
mythologized as the spark that ignited the
so-called cultural curiosity known as the
Beat Generation and has been venerated as an
icon in the literary firmament.
Sorry, Jack, I didn't get it. See

Story Writing Contest

complete contest details.
It
has often been said that there are infinite
story possibilities about the fabled city of
hopes and dreams, New York, and from the number
of entries pouring in from around the world, we
believe it's true. The end of warm
days spurs us out of our lethargy, inciting us to
bold and drastic actions, reminding us to live
life to its fullest, as it's done in New York City,
where the bold and drastic are never in short
supply to get the creative juices flowing. Write
your New York short story in no more than 2,500
words and you might share it with the world.
The second annual Warren Adler Short Story
Contest, in an endeavor to publicize and
promote the art of the fictional short story and
restore its place as a prime literary format, is
accepting submissions that capture the essence of
New York. First prize, to be announced in
conjunction with the publication of Warren Adler's
latest short story collection New York Echoes,
will be awarded $1,000; five finalists will also
be awarded personalized first editions of Mr.
Adler's collection.
As a bonus the story judged best by Mr. Adler,
along with a People's Choice award chosen from
among the finalists via online reader vote, will
be published and available for sale on Amazon
Shorts. In addition all five finalist stories will
be featured via "live" readings on Amazon's
Theater on Second Life.
Deadline is January 15, 2008.
See
rules and submission guidelines.
All work must be submitted on-line, along with
a $15 fee per entry. Finalists retain all except
non-exclusive internet-only rights and/or a
six-month exclusive deal with Amazon. Good luck.
