The Blog Fog
|
There is no escape. We are drowning in words.
The blogs are fogging up the world. They are
everywhere, in text, sound and video, a whirling
dervish of yak yak, an endless buffet of
opinions, hawking concepts, beliefs,
convictions, perceptions, speculations. Nothing
goes unsaid or unwritten. Silence has been
defeated by technology. Reflection has given way
to immediacy. Say or write everything on your
mind. Edit nothing. We have become a world of
monologists. See
complete story.

Most monologists haven't the insight to
recognize when a hapless listener shuts off
the sound spigot and interpret a periodic nod
as rapt attention. |

Madeline's Miracles (Novel)
When a commercial artist, her stockbroker
husband and their twin daughters move to Los
Angeles, they unwittingly fall prey to a woman
who convinces them that she is a psychic and
can foresee their future. By persuading them
that she holds the key to their success and
can protect them from the dangers that
threaten them, she gradually takes full
control over their careers, their parenting,
even their sex lives, until they become her
willing accomplices. This chilling tale rises
to a tense crescendo as the psychic dissects
and manipulates the family's beliefs and
paralyzes their will to protect themselves.
This classic story of brainwashing offers a
cautionary tale for anyone who has lost the
ability to question an illogical certainty. Read the first chapter of

to meet her father. He wants answers, and more
than that, he wants her back. Her leaving tore
the family apart. The father needs to find out
why she left. Gone is one story from the
upcoming book of short stories,
