In Warren's Words

Adventures in the Digital World

My avatar, Warren Adler Aeon, has been holding weekly conversations at the Amazon site on Second Life with other avatars who join me on Thursdays at 3 p.m. (EDT). I lead the conversation, which deals with the short story as a literary medium, and the reasons why I embarked on my short story contest.

Read a recent session transcript, one blog review and another blog review.

If you do not understand my reference to Second Life then you have missed a remarkable story of a virtual digital world where other avatars—which is best defined as a concept or idea that takes on what looks like a human—interact in this virtual world. It is, in fact, "a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity." See complete story.

Introducing Warren Adler Aeon.

Contest News

Second Annual Writing Contest Winners Announced Today!

Warren Adler will announce his choice for the top prize of $1,000, along with the People's Choice winner. Both winners will be published on Amazon.com. The announcement will take place on Second Life at 3pm EDT today and will be posted shortly after on the contest page at WarrenAdler.com.

Congratulations to our finalists and to all those who entered. Warren Adler said, "the quality of your stories were quite remarkable and I urge everyone who submitted to continue to follow the path of creative writing. Reading these stories was quite inspiring to me and I agonized over my final choices...I wish all contestants the best of luck in their writing. In my view there is no more fulfilling calling than the life of the creative writer and no more skillful exercise in craft and talent than the short story. It is my fervent hope that this medium will once again attain the heights and interest it deserves. And remember. What seems like a rejection is merely one person's opinion and it is often a poor indication of future success."

Sometime after the announcement of the winners of this contest, we will announce our third annual contest and anticipate even more submissions. Until then, keep writing!
